It is a well known fact that several religious texts forbid the eating of pork. According to Leviticus, the third book of Judaism’s Torah and Christianity’s Old Testament, pork is an “unclean” meat and is non-kosher, since pigs do not “chew the cud.” Meanwhile, the eating of pork is condemned no less than four times in the Qur’an of Islam. While no direct reason is given for this condemnation, many Muslims believe that it is because pigs are disease-ridden animals.

The religious texts are correct,Though science and religion rarely share a similar perspective, there are many scientifically valid reasons for this religious condemnation of pork. Pigs really are dirty, unclean animals that eat almost anything, including rotten food, urine, feces, maggot-infested carcasses and even cancerous growths. Doctors in Barcelona, Spain believe they have found the cure to HIV – the AIDS-causing virus that affects the lives of more than 34 million people worldwide, according to WHO.
By using blood transplants from the umbilical cords of individuals with a genetic resistance to HIV, Spanish medical professionals believe they can treat the virus, having proven the procedure successful with one patient.
A 37-year-old man from Barcelona, who had been infected with the HIV virus in 2009, was cured of the condition after receiving a transplant of blood.
While unfortunately the man later died from cancer just three years later, having developed lymphoma, the Spanish medical team is still hugely encouraged by what it considers to be a breakthrough in the fight against HIV and related conditions, according to the Spanish news source El Mundo.
Doctors in Barcelona initially attempted the technique using the precedent of Timothy Brown, an HIV patient who developed leukemia before receiving experimental treatment in Berlin, the Spanish news site The Local reported. Brown was given bone marrow from a donor who carried the resistance mutation from HIV. After the cancer treatment, the HIV virus had also disappeared.
According to The Local, the CCR5 Delta 35 mutation affects a protein in white blood cells and provides an estimated one percent of the human population with high resistance to infection from HIV.
Spanish doctors attempted to treat the lymphoma of the so-called “Barcelona patient” with chemotherapy and an auto-transplant of the cells, but were unable to find him a suitable bone marrow.
“We suggested a transplant of blood from an umbilical cord but from someone who had the mutation because we knew from ‘the Berlin patient’ that as well as [ending] the cancer, we could also eradicate HIV,” Rafael Duarte, the director of the Haematopoietic Transplant Programme at the Catalan Oncology Institute in Barcelona, told The Local.
Prior to the transplant, a patient’s blood cells are destroyed with chemotherapy before they are replaced with new cells, incorporating the mutation which means the HIV virus can no longer attach itself to them. For the Barcelona patient, stem cells from another donor were used in order to accelerate the regeneration process.
Eleven days after the transplant, the patient in Barcelona experienced recovery. Three months later, it was found that he was clear of the HIV virus.
Despite the unfortunate death of the patient from cancer, the procedure has led to the development of an ambitious project that is backed by Spain’s National Transplant Organization.
March 2016 will mark the world’s first clinical trials of umbilical cord transplants for HIV patients with blood cancers. Javier Martinez, a virologist from the research foundation Irsicaixa, stressed that the process is primarily designed to assist HIV patients suffering from cancer, but “this therapy does allow us to speculate about a cure for HIV,” he added.

Chief Justice David Maraga has hit out at Jubilee for demanding that Justice George Odunga be removed from all August 8 election cases.
In a letter to Maraga, party secretary general Raphael Tuju notes “with concern” Odunga’s relationship with NASA chief polls agent James Orengo.
“It was recently revealed that Justice Odunga is related to Siaya Senator James Orengo [yet] the judge has presided over numerous cases where Orengo is retained as advocate,” Tuju said on Tuesday.
He goes on to cite cases Odunga has presided over in which lawyer Orengo represented the Opposition.

But Maraga said the Judicial Service Commission and the Judiciary will not be cowed by intimidation.
“We will, at no time, direct any judicial officer on how to decide any case before them or [tell the] to recuse themselves,” he said during a press briefing on Wednesday.

The CJ said he will not ask judges to resign because of what politicians utter and added that all politicians should desist from attacking judges.
“The CJ cannot direct a judge or disqualify himself. The rules of recusal are clear.”
Noting such attacks have climaxed and become bolder with time, the Chief Justice said they will not bow to Tuju’s demands.
“We are alerted by the audacity of the party as it seeks to determine who hears the cases it files in court. The emerging culture of public lynching of judges must stop,” he said.
“The chronology of attacks on judges is worrying. JSC remains steadfast in defending judges from unwarranted attacks.”
Maraga added they will not get involved in alarming threats, intimidation and blackmail.
“Our judicial system has avenues for recourse should they be dissatisfied by the rulings we make.”

“Two days ago I made a report of three gun shots in State Housing Estate. Information reaching me was that a police team was chasing arm robbers.
The chase took them to Calabar South where Operation Scolombo and joint police and military patrol continued the chase and until yesterday and early today they caught up with their target.
One Stephen Etim Edet was shot on the leg and caught while in a robbery operation. The said young man has been shot several weeks ago and was receiving treatment
administered to him by his mother. If you look carefully from the picture you will see stitches of previous wounds.”

In what could best be described as a horrible case of someone jumping from frying pan into fire, 20-year-old Kumi Mallam Jayi, is now awaiting arraignment in court for the alleged gruesome murder of Hassan Adamu, 27, his friend.
Jayi allegedly hacked Adamu to death on September 10, 2016 by beheading him with his cutlass. He also cut off one of Adamu’s legs, in an apparent attempt to dismember him and make his body untraceable. The incident happened at Jato Mariga under Azara Development Area, Nasarawa State.
The Commissioner of Police, Mr Abubakar Sadiq Bello, who gave the gory details of the alleged murder said the path that led up to the horrendous incident began when Jayi sought the advice of Adamu over his inability to have intercourse with his wife. He was deeply disturbed that three years after marrying, he had no child to show for it, due largely to his inability to sustain an Attention.
Adamu after considering Jayi’s request was said to have offered to help him to overcome the predicament.
At the headquarters of the police command, where he spoke with Sunday Sun reporter, Jayi recounted the background to the horrific incident.
“I got married to my wife Halima three years ago. We do not have any child. I have tried in many places to get a solution to the problem without success. Then I told my friend, Hassan Adamu my predicament and he promised to assist me. He brought a native concoction, which he said I should always rub on my m*****d before having intercourse with my wife.”
Believing that he had finally gotten a solution to the problem that had caused him untold psychological pain, Jayi faithfully applied the ‘drug’ as prescribed by his friend. But then the unintended happened. Prior to using the local concoction, he could at least have a short-lived Attention. But after taking the concoction, even the little Attention he could muster disappeared completely, leaving him impotent.
“I met Adamu and begged him to return my m*****d because I had become impotent. I could not make love with my wife again. Adamu told me that there was nothing he could do again to help me. Do you know that my wife had divorced me three times in the past?”
With the prospect of losing his wife of three years staring him in the face, red-hot fury got hold of Jayi, and he confronted Adamu, whom he blamed for the fate that had befallen him.
Bello further told Sunday Sun that an altercation ensued between the two friends. Jayi drew his sharp cutlass and dealt a deadly cut on Adamu that severed his head. He fell down and died instantly. Jayi took to his heels.
Meanwhile, the father of the deceased, Alhaji Manu Adamu, had become worried about the sudden disappearance of his son who did not come home since three days. It was on the third day that the family learnt about what happened at Azara Council Development Area.
“When we got there, I saw my son’s head and left leg cut off. I couldn’t believe it. I ran to Azara Police Division and reported the incident.
Detectives from homicide section of the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department (CIID) launched a manhunt for Jayi and arrested him on September 15, 2016, five days after the incident.
As Sunday Sun gathered from the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department (CIID), DCP Hamza Ameyi, Jayi in the course of interrogation at police headquarters confessed to the crime and took detectives to Jato Mariga Azara Development Area where the corpse of the deceased Adamu Hassan was retrieved.
“We were able to recover the cutlass he used to commit the murder,” Ameyi said.
It was only after Jayi was arrested by the police and interrogated that the deceased’s father learnt about what really transpired between his son and Jayi. The distraught father said that the family decided to bury the deceased in the same place where Jayi allegedly murdered him.
As it stands, the police commissioner said the process of charging Jayi to court

A High Court sitting in Koton-Karfi in Kogi on Monday sentenced a herbalist, Ibrahim Muhammed, to death by hanging for murdering two brothers.
In his judgement, the Presiding Judge, Justice Alaba Omolaye-Ajileye, who sentenced the convict to death described his act as “high level of exceptional wickedness”.
Omolaye-Ajileye said the convict had corroborated the prosecution’s submission that he poisoned Mohammed Kudu Abubakar and Umar Tanko Abubakar after snatching their car.
“I hold that after poisoning the two brothers as the accused confessed in his downright criminality, he hit their heads with pestle (Exhibit P7) to hasten their annihilation.
And, in order to avoid any trace of his brutal and inhuman act, the accused buried the dead bodies of Tanko and Mohammed in his compound. Unfortunate for him, since nothing is hidden under the sky, nemesis caught up with him.
By the application of an unusual but most excellent investigatory dexterity, the Special Anti-Squad (SARS) of the Nigeria Police, Kogi State, exposed the apparently hidden crime.
By your own word, after poisoning both Tanko and Mohammed and they refused to die, you used a pestle to hit them on their heads. That was a brutal homicide committed with determination and ruthlessness.
The manner you committed it by your own description, make it a high-level exceptional wickedness that it can only be properly marked by death sentence, which is the only sentence I can pass on you,” Omolaye-Ajileye ruled.
Muhammed was charged with robbery and culpable homicide. The convict committed the offence sometime in January, 2016 at Kungbani.
He was said to have robbed Abubakar and his brother, Mohammed, of a Toyota Carina E Wagon and later poisoned, killed and buried them.

The senator representing Kogi west at the national assembly, Dino Melaye, on his official Facebook page, described the Late president Umar Musa Yar’Adua as the best president Nigeria ever had.
He said that under his regime, there was respect for the rule of law, he was “the first president to ever reduced the price of petrol in Nigeria, (From N75 to N70 and later from N70 to N65) and the economy did not collapse”, he was also the first president who succeeded in solving the Niger Delta crisis which he didn’t cause”.

Dear Umaru Musa Yar’Adua, when you were around we called you: The BAD one. The SLOW ONE. The SICK ONE.
Yes, you were sick, in fact, sick all through your administration. We all cried for your resignation at the height of your sickness. Cursing you, your first lady and your supporters (The first set of Cabals).
Asking you to die if you want to die and allow the man with all the Goodluck in this world to lead us.
We forgot that even though you were sick, you were the first Governor to have ever declared his assets publicly and you remained the only President in the history of Nigeria to have ever declare his assets publicly.
We conveniently forgot that even though you were gravely sick you were the first president to ever reduced the price of petrol in Nigeria, (From N75 to N70 and later from N70 to N65) and the economy did not collapse like the present leaders are making us believe. You even reversed the sale of our refineries.
We forgot that you didn’t afflict yourself with your sickness and so could do very little about it. But we still insisted that you just have to go, so that Nigeria can finally have her chance with Goodluck.
We forgot that even though you were terminally ill, you still succeeded in solving the Niger Delta crisis which you didn’t cause, but you found a solution. And even crushed d first Boko Haram uprising and caught its leader.
You gave us rule of Law, Ameachi reclaimed his mandate as Rivers governor, Andy Uba lost in court and was removed as Anambra State’s Governor. Oni lost in Ekiti and was removed, Agagu lost in Ondo and was removed, Osunbor lost in Edo and was removed even though they are all members of your party (PDP).
Now we have seen what a healthy president has done with the country.

I know I have really kept you all on a gist hold and great suspense, I\’m here to relieve you and all i want you to do is to comment what you think about God after reading. My Accident Chronicles, phase 1.. Never doubt it when u hear that God works in mysterious and miraculous ways cos I\’m a living witness. Just exactly 2 weeks today, a drunk driver on a very high speed hit the keke drop I entered heading home near Presidential Road, Independent Layout, Enugu and the keke man died on the spot(may his soul RIP) while I was fortunate enough to be rushed to the hospital by a good Samaritan(Emeka Ukonu) that saw I still have little life left in me and had pity on me after minutes of being ignored by passersby who thought we were both dead and couldn\’t come close. I can\’t seize thanking God, blessing and praying for this young man. Here are pictures of me before the accident, accident scene and my conscious state after been attended to by doctors. I\’m not done with my story yet, this is just phase 1, stay turned for my miraculous recovery story. For now, keep thanking and praising God for my life.
